Hello, I'm Shaw.

I began making and recording music in high school, eventually receiving a Bachelors Degree in Sound Arts from ECDA. After graduating from college I began recording and producing albums in my bedroom. Nowadays I live in Brooklyn and work independently out of a number of recording studios in NYC.

What it has meant to be a "producer" has varied enormously on a case-by-case basis, but usually it means that I am involved in making strong creative and technical decisions with the sole interest of serving the songs and, ultimately, the album as a whole body of work. Sometimes, though, it simply means managing studio time effectively.

If you are interested in working with me on a project please don't hesitate to contact me!

Starlight Girls - Self-titled EP (2012)

The 5-song EP conjures images of carnivals, espionage, go-go dancing, and Saturday morning cartoon shows... it seems Starlight Girls just might have created a genre unto themselves.

Teen Girl Scientist Monthly - Hear Boys Talk EP (2012)

Teen Girl Scientist Monthly reminds me of pretty much every cheery, jangly indie-pop band I adored back in my 20-something years; they're speedy and fun, never taking themselves too seriously, but at the same time, the music they make is insanely catchy, compelling you to sing/headbob along.

Shaw is credited with... Recording, producing and mixing along with the band's bassist, Matt Gliva.
How was it done? Recorded in Logic with multiple SM-57s going into a Digi 002 for everything in Shaw's living room.

Amelia Dunaway - Historique (2012)

Maybe it's because she wrote the songs, or because she lived the songs but whatever the case you can feel every emotion in every lyric and every chord change. Her vocal strength is in her seemingly casual ability to deliver each song with the most natural sense of emotion. She doesn't even have to try.

The Stages of Sleep - Self-Titled EP (2012)

The Stages of Sleep is best described as experimental/alternative gypsy rock. Heavily influenced by such bands as Radiohead, The Gipsy Kings, Emily Wells, 2 foot yard to name a few, the end result of their eclectic sound could be characterized as "world music." The band members, however, prefer to say that their music encompasses and defines a "cross-genre" style of music. The main cast of The Stages of Sleep originates from the San Francisico Bay Area, with collaborative efforts from additional artists around the country.

What is this? 5-song EP for Latin Indie Rock band
Shaw is credited as... Tracking engineer

Railcars - Cities Vs. Submarines (2009)

I can honestly say that I haven't heard anything quite like [railcars'] cities vs. submarines.. and in a good way. It's nice to hear new, unique music. I love the muffled voices, and the add of electronics is superb. The artwork for their album is fantastic as well. I don't want to sound super cheesy about this review, but I loved this EP. If I could dance, I would shake my groove thing to this album.

Camp Out - Closer LP (2010)

The music within Closer is everything you already know and enjoy from the best sources of female-led indie pop without compromising originality or pigeonholing the band into the somewhat problematic category of "girl rock." Instead, the light-hearted themes mix with comprehensive structure and effervescent distortion, creating an overall infectious and multi-layered debut.

Anya Skidan - Shine the Brightest LP (2012)

I first met Anya last summer on a train station platform in Brooklyn. I was with Carolyn & we were heading back to Manhattan when I saw a beautiful woman with an acoustic guitar. Railcars - Said Sister 7"

Railcars' new 7, Said Sister reconfigures memoires of the stunning [railcars LP] Cathedral with no Eyes in that brutally bewitching fashion which we have come to expect from the very talented Aria Jalali.
